Part 3: Misc and wall spaces

Picking up from where I left off I’ll proceed with some wall compositions. I’m not sure what the significance of the yellow ochre is but a lot of buildings use the color and/or a turquoise blue. You’ll also notice that the walls have a license plate numbering system painted on them – this is everywhere.

The following two pictures appear to be menus for restaurants. When we were there they weren’t present, it is common for restaurants to pop up spontaneously and at places you wouldn’t think a restaurant should be.

As the category implies this post is a lot of abstract stuff that doesn’t necessarily have much to it when it comes to a story line. If you are looking for more background on what took place to get these shots, refer to the previous two posts.

This is another barber shop but with a different twist and an architecturally intriguing location. I did three takes on the shot.

This final image for the set is of trash collecting bins they use mostly at night to clean the streets. Having watched the way locals deal with waste, it is obvious there is plenty of work to be done. In many ways the street is used like a trash can. I can’t imagine the result of not cleaning. When the sanitary people go on strike in the states most of the stuff is in bags and not left to bake in the sun. If they went on strike here the smell would be unbearable.

Part 4: Table scraps

I have a couple of random images to put in that I shot when I left town. I also have something new – a few videos to engross everyone into the Vietnam experience. Sean shot them off his Olympus camera – he is one of the Americans I traveled Hanoi with. I’ve decided for the next trip I definitely need to pack some sort of video camera to do more of these, possibly even take it to the next level with some sort well edited video immersion travel log.

These ladies were pulling weeds – at least that’s what it looked like. Looking at the size of the park they were working in I’d imagine they keep busy.

This last image isn’t my typical style; it has more of a journalistic feel to it. For whatever reason I liked it enough to throw it in the mix.

Warning for the squeamish – the following video is disturbing.

I think the sound may be a little loud on the video files. As far as the video above – it was shot in a Hanoi market. It appears as though the frogs are skinned by yanking off the bottom jaw. This is done of course after they remove the feet – it makes the peel go smoother.

For anyone keeping track of the things ate the list includes: Pigeon, frog, and dog.

The next two videos are of the traffic. This isn’t quite normal, I would assume there was a serious blockage somewhere, whether it be a closed road or accident.

That’s all for Hanoi, I’m gradually working on the next post for Ha Long Bay to follow sometime in the next few days.

Attention all in San Francisco!!!

San Francisco now is your time!

trans_america__by_frankrizzo

I’m in the process of booking my tickets back to the states.

One of the options I am looking into is a stop by San Francisco for about a week starting the 24th of December (give or take a day from travel) and flying out the 4 of January.

It’s an odd time frame given the holidays which is why I need to know who will be in town and whether or not I can find a couch/place to enjoy Christmas & New Years.

The 4th of January is arbitrary so if there is something to stay longer for I am flexible.

Email me ASAP anyone and everyone.
